PAINTING MEDIA

Diverse types of paint are frequently identified by the medium that the pigment is suspended or embedded in which determines the general working characteristics of the paint like viscosity, solubility and drying time. There are some painting media that you need to know. For example: Acrylic, Fresco, Encaustic, Gouache, Ink, Oil, Spray paint or graffiti, Tempera and Watercolor.

  • Acrylic. - This painting is characterized by its fast-drying. They are resistant to water when they are completely dry. The acrylic painting has a similar finish to oil painting and some watercolor.
  • Fresco. -  It is a painting done on a surface covered with a thin layer of soft plaster, which will apply slaked lime (CaOH2) and when the last layer is still wet, is painted on it.
  • Encaustic. - Technical painting made with colored dissolved in melted wax to be applied hot.
  • Gouache. - The gouache is an opaque watercolor. A good gouache painting should not have thick fillings or very thick layers of paint. However, it produces an effect of being thicker of what actually is.
  • Ink. - It is a liquid containing different pigments and dyes used for coloring a surface to create an image or text. General perceptions consider ink for use in drawing or writing with a pen or brush. However, inks are used most widely in printing.
  • Oil. - In art, oils are used to mix with other products and get a color more suitable for painting.
  • Graffiti. - It's called graffiti or painted a several forms of registration or painting, usually on public or private properties outside such as walls, vehicles, doors and furniture, etc.
  • Tempera. - Tempera is a kind of artist's paint and associated art techniques that were known from the classical world. It’s also identified as egg tempera.
  • Watercolor. - It is a painting on paper or cardboard with colors diluted in water. In its procedures used paint by the layers transparent in order to achieve greater brilliance and looseness in the composition being done.
